Seattle Women's Jazz Orchestra with special guest Marina Albero. Taryn Zickefoose, musical director.
SWOJO has been showcasing many of the the finest female jazz artists in the Puget Sound region for over 20 years.
The orchestra performs classic jazz, Latin jazz, and contemporary jazz music by established and emerging composers. SWOJO presents live concerts with special guests artists such as Ingrid Jensen, Grace Kelly, Curtis Stigers, Mimi Fox, Sheryl Bailey, and Christine Jensen. The band has performed at many top venues such as Benaroya Hall, Jazz Alley, The Triple Door, and at Bumbershoot.
SWOJO has traveled internationally to present concerts at jazz festivals and recorded two CDs on the Origin Arts2 record label "Dreamcatcher" and "Meeting of the Waters".
Marina Albero
Pianist, composer, and educator Marina Albero is a captivating performer born in Barcelona and based in Seattle since 2015. Albero's playing is an absolute celebration of life, her spirited performances are intelligent, uplifting, and delightfully engrossing.
Albero deftly draws on a lifetime of music tradition, from her native Barcelona in classical and early music as well as flamenco, to Cuba and Son Cubano, to American jazz. She has been the recipient of several awards (including this years Golden Ear awards Instrumentalist of the Year and Concert of the year) and was featured as the Resident artist for the 2021 Earshot Jazz Festival.
She has shared stage with Ganesh Rajagopalan, Chano Dominguez, Alba Carmona, Thomas Marriot, DVonne Lewis, Queen Cora Coleman, Divinity Roxx, Carlos Saura, Jeff Johnson, Evan Flory-Barnes, Jacqueline Tabor, Pepe Habichuela, LArpeggiata, and many others.
She has presented her music at KNKX, Marymoor Live, Town Hall Seattle, KBCS, Bohemian Festival in Prague, Ballard Jazz Festival, Benaroya Hall among others. She is currently the modern piano professor at Cornish College of the Arts.
Seattle Womens Jazz Orchestra is a nonprofit performing arts organization and was formed to nurture the musical, educational and artistic growth of individual musicians, to encourage women and girls to become involved in jazz performance and composition as a career or avocation, and to foster community interest in and appreciation of jazz as an art form.
