Introduction to Permaculture Workshop

Permaculture, or "permanent agriculture," is a design methodology used to create multi-functional edible landscapes. Imagine an animal in the forest: it has everything it needs. Food, shelter, water, nesting material, and others of its kind are found by walking through the landscape.

Permaculture simulates this relationship, and results in an integrated, dynamic, ecosystem-like food production site of any size. A forest garden is a multi-level food-producing polyculture.

Taught by Joseph D. Leyda, Certified Permaculture Designer and Certified Ecologist, this one day workshop includes classroom and in-field instruction on basic permaculture design principles, zones and sector analysis, plant polyculture theory, planting guild design.

This is an introductory class intended for beginners. It does not qualify students for permaculture design certification.

Dress for the weather and bring water and a brown bag lunch.

The location of the class is the Clark County Heritage Farm, 1919 NE 78th Street, Vancouver, WA 98665. The first part of the day will start inside the conference room. After lunch, the class will move out the permaculture site on grounds to explore a young food forest site.
