Osteoporosis: An Update -- Mark Stilphen, M.D.

Did you know your bone is alive? Are you aware 50% of all women will develop osteoporosis? Men are also not spared.

One definition of osteoporosis is that it is a bone disease characterized by deficits
in both bone quality and quantity which deteriorates with age.

Dr. Mark Stilphen, who has a special interest and training in osteoporosis, will explain in more detail how osteoporosis is defined as well as intricacies of how the bone is alive.

You will gain an appreciation of what goes wrong in osteoporosis, be exposed to the complexities of different treatment options and realize how devastating the impact of an osteoporotic fracture can be.

After reviewing how the disease is evaluated and prevented, Dr. Stilphen will provide recommendations to enhance our bone health.

For over a decade, Dr. Mark Stilphen, MD has worked in San Luis Obispo as an endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism specialist and has 44 years medical experience. While working on the Central Coast, he has treated many patients with osteoporosis and has regularly attended osteoporosis seminars at UCSF to broaden his knowledge.
