2021 IBC Section 716.4 Fire Protective Curtain Assembly: UL 10D These requirements cover the evaluation of fire-protective curtain assemblies intended to provide supplemental, passive fire protection as part of an engineered fire protection system. Fire-protective curtain assemblies are horizontally or vertically oriented. ANSI A156.32 Integrated Door Opening Assemblies Integrated door assemblies are a recent development in design that combines the exit device, hardware, door, and frame into a single unit. Integrated door assemblies provide a single solution for entry, exit and cross-corridor doorways. Difficulties with installation due to problems of hardware compatibility and misalignment are avoided. This course is based on a case study for a high-rise tower covering a complex smoke management system.
Learning Objectives:
Define Atrium spaces according to International Building Code standards.
Describe the features of Fire Protective Curtain Assemblies and Steel Integrated Fire Door Assemblies.
Explain how to satisfy the needs of IBC Section 3006 Elevator Lobbies and Hoistway Opening Protection by utilizing the correct smoke and fire rated curtains/doors at such openings.
Summarize how smoke and fire containment barriers work in conjunction with smoke extraction systems and minimize the dangers associated with the effects of fire, including smoke, heat, and toxic gases.

His curiosity for fire life safety started at an early age, a former EMT, this experience prepared him for the role he plays at Door Systems as the in-house specifications writer and designer of fire life safety products. Sals education in drafting and design technologies along with understanding the challenges first responders encounter during an emergency, ensures the fire doors, and curtains he designs satisfy both the architects vision and code officials requirements. As an Education Provider for AIA, CSI, and ICC Sal loves to speak to audiences across multiple platforms.
