Coping With Dementia -- Rudy Xavier

We are approaching a world-wide pandemic of age-related dementia. While Alzheimer's is the most prevalent, there are in fact, 79 kinds.

In the US, as the very large -and aging- tip of the Baby Boomers approach retirement and join the combined GI and Silent Generations, this one disease threatens to overwhelm the US healthcare system and may affect YOU.

This class will examine the issues of the two victims of dementia --- the patient and the caregiver. With the right information, practice, and help, it is possible to learn to cope or help someone else cope with this life-changing development. We will discuss current methods of understanding, then coping with the crushing burden of living with friends or family who have entered the dimming light of dementia.

Your instructor Rudy Xavier, B.A. (Premed), M.A.(Psych), MSc-(Computer Science)enjoyed a satisfying career at DEC, Honeywell & Xerox Corp., targeting scientific & medical software. A former counseling intern, Rudy is well trained in psychology, and has received annually certified training as a Support Group Facilitator for the Bay Area Alzheimer's Association.
