Emerging Artists returns with their one-of-a-kind festival. Visit the theater any evening during this three-week event, and you'll find yourself transported in a number of surprising ways: by a single performer embodying a whole host of characters; by a more experimental theater piece "done differently" that challenges and delights; by a cozy two-person show exploring relationships; or perhaps by a bouncy new musical that will have you humming. Emerging Artists has always been about new works, new talents, new voices. That's never been more evident than now.

"WAIT A MINUTE - I THOUGHT I WAS WHITE"

Growing up Cuban-American in Miami, FL, "Carmencita" Diana Yanez was led to believe that she was Caucasian. "When I was a kid I thought Princess Leia was Cuban. I thought Donny and Marie Osmond were Cuban I even thought Santa was Cuban! Why wouldn't I? And I wasn't black, so that meant I was white, right...? WRONG."

Ruby has been called a hoarder (by her friends), with ADD (says her doctor), and is showing signs of OCD (say her friends who think they're doctors). But sooner rather than later she's gonna get her life together, right? Join Ruby on her whirlwind adventure in this based-on-her-true-story solo show.

A South African-American leadership trainer working in the Bronx confronts what the daily practice of putting high school students through metal detectors does to their self-perception. "Linda Means to Wait" is a comical evening of storytelling, with poignant insights from a middle-class upbringing on Chicago's racially charged South Side.

A story of two women who are losing everything they've ever been in very different ways as they both lose the most important person in their lives: each other. Who is it harder for? The one who can't remember? Or the one who can't forget?
