Spit that Fiyah! Improve Your Spoken Word Poetry Skills
What is spoken word poetry performance? How does it differ from other poetry readings? How can you bring your writing and speaking abilities together to enhance your performances? What do you need to work on to be a great spoken word artist?

This four-week session will help you enhance your poetry performance skills so that you will increase your ability and confidence in getting on the mic! In an enjoyable group setting, we'll examine the aspects of content and delivery that must be addressed to make a poem jump off the page and into your audience's ears, eyes and mind with verve and power! Topics will include writing for performance, memorizing pieces, delivery dynamics, dealing with nerves, types of venues, open mics vs. slams, and more! We'll look at video of spoken word performances as well as offer helpful feedback to each other. Each participant will work on a piece(s) that he or she will be ready and excited to "spit" at a venue!

Whether performing spoken word is brand new to you or if you want to get a better feel for where you're skills are, this is an opportunity to work with a small group as we help each other hone our poetic delivery so we can better drop some "fiyah" on the mic!

A veteran of various forms of public speaking, Analysis (Ken Brown) ventured into spoken word poetry a few years ago and fell in love with it! He's featured and spotlighted at area venues such as the Evil Grin Poetry Series in Annapolis, Spit Ur Peace in Hagerstown, Spirits & Lyrics in Manassas, 1 Eclectic Heart of Words in Mt. Rainier, Mic Check in Washington, and VERBATIMondays, the Bolton Hill Open Mic Series and BUILD Thursdays in Baltimoreas well as various venues in New England! Ken studied Public Communication at the American University and holds a Master of Divinity degree from Howard University, where he graduated with highest honors. He's a poet/spoken word artist, organizer, activist, minister, educator, consultant, soccer addict and a lover of justice and human rights! A former resident of Cleveland and New Haven, he's enjoying being back home in Baltimore. https://www.facebook.com/analysisthepoet
