Paul Thompson Jazz Quartet plays the music of Wayne Shorter
Wayne Shorter is an American jazz saxophonist and composer who has been active in the music industry for more than six decades. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and innovative jazz musicians of his generation. Shorter's music is characterized by its adventurous and experimental nature. He is known for his use of complex harmonies, unconventional chord progressions, and intricate melodies. He has also been praised for his ability to blend various styles and genres into his music, including funk, rock, and classical music.

The quartet will cover Wayne's compositional work from Art Blakey to Miles Davis to his Blue Note years to Weather Report to his 80s work to his last great quartet.

Paul Thompson has played bass professionally for over 25 years, including recording and touring stints with trumpeter Maynard Ferguson and saxophonist Stanley Turrentine. Currently, he can be seen playing around Pittsburgh with Salsamba!, THOTH Trio, the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra, in pit orchestras, Musical Theatre, Front Porch Theatricals, PCLO, and Pittsburgh Public Theatre, or performing with some of Pittsburgh's rich Jazz community. Performance credits include Hubert Laws, Geri Allen, Michael Feinstein, Bob James, Phil Woods, Sean Jones, and Billy Porter.

The Paul Thompson Jazz Quartet represents different generations of jazz music from one of America's centers of the art form Pittsburgh, Pa. Combining original music and standard repertoire; the group focuses on creating a new sound while firmly embodying the traditions of jazz. Each group member has extensive performing credits in Pittsburgh, around the country, and internationally while continuing to play within the abundant jazz community in our city.
