Evergreen Museum & Library's seventh annual The House Beautiful lecture series is themed around reconstruction and rediscovery, exploring America's on-going interpretation of restoration, preservation, and documentation as applied to the historic built environment. The illustrated talks will take place in Evergreen's Bakst Theatre, followed by receptions with the speakers

March 26: "New Work by Latrobe and Jefferson: Rediscovering the Lost Capitol of 1814"
Join architect and illustrator RICHARD CHENOWETH for a virtual tour of the pre-1814 Capitoldown to the furniture, lighting schemes and carpet patternsbased on facts, historical sources and letters.

April 23: "Harlem at Home: Two Centuries of Distinctive, Ever Increasingly Expensive, Residential Architecture"
Join Harlem historian and preservation activist MICHAEL HENRY ADAMS for an exploration of Harlem's extraordinary legacy of residential architecture, from mansions and country villas to thoughtfully planned row houses and handsome apartment buildings. Copies of his related book will be available for purchase and signing.

May 14: "The Hidden White House: Harry Truman and the Reconstruction of America's Most Famous Residence"
Author ROBERT KLARA speaks in conjunction with the publication of his riveting book "The Hidden White House," about the most historically significant and politically complex home-improvement job in American history: the Truman administration's controversial rebuilding of the White House. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
