Hio Ridge Dance Collective

Hio Ridge Dance Collective is a choreographic collaborative formed by Cookie Harrist, Delaney McDonough, and Caitlin Richards.

The Collective was founded out of a mutual need to make dances in a more holistic way. To do so, they removed themselves from lives in separate cities and moved into an old, remote family home in Denmark, Maine. They live together, cook together, and make dances together, and can't help but dream big.

During a two-month residency, they created a 45-minute piece based in questions about the nature of youth, the embodied experience of music, and the endless search for patience.

While the piece is a finished work, their research doesn't end with performance. They are as interested in creating dances as they are in undertaking the difficult task of crafting a dancing life that works for them, not works on them. They are artist-inventors, constantly tinkering, never accepting the possibility that their life's work would not be the work they love. From that vantage point, it's clear that their values are weighted toward longevity and learning rather than fortune and fame. As young dancemakers, they do not find themselves common in this regard, nor are they alone. They do believe, however, that approaching art and performance this way is underrepresented in dance, and art more broadly, to its detriment.

The performance is at 7:30pm with a Q & A with the audience afterwards.
