"An Invitation to the Dance" with the New Millennium Chamber Orchestra
The New Millennium Chamber Orchestra invites you to join us for the first presentation of our Tenth Anniversary Season with Invitation to the Dance, an electrifying program of classical music rooted in the forms and spirit of the art of dance!
This lively and varied program spotlights Igor Stravinskys fascinating Pulcinella Suite, a set of dances Stravinsky extracted from his one-act ballet. Based on pieces by the 18th-century composer Giovanni Pergolesi, Pulcinella marks the beginning of Stravinskys iconic neoclassical period.
Baroque dance is also brought vividly to life in Edvard Griegs Aus Holbergs Zeit. This setting for string orchestra is a virtuosic, stylish homage to the Norwegian writer and playwright Ludvig Hoberg, in the style of country dances from Holberg's time.
From the period of the late Renaissance and very early Baroque, NMCO plays two innovative transcriptions for flexible ensemble of winds and strings by two arrangers from Japan. These arrangements of music by the English composer Anthony Holborne and the German master Michael Praetorius are full of wonderful melodies, enchanting sonorities and toe-tapping rhythmic treats. The program is rounded out by one of Johann Strauss loveliest Vienna waltz suites, An Artists Life.

The first performance will be held on on Saturday, November 12 at 7 pm at Transfiguration Episcopal Church in San Mateo.

As always, middle and high school students attend our concerts for free.

We take your safety very seriously, so all members of the orchestra are fully vaccinated. We will require audience members to wear masks while in the concert venue.
Note that some members of the wind section will not be wearing masks while playing. Please do not purchase a ticket if you cannot meet the masking requirements, or if you are concerned about certain members of the winds playing without masks.
We request that you do not attend the concert if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19. If you are unable to attend due to illness, please contact us and your ticket price will be refunded.
