4.48 Psychosis
Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble (SATE) proudly presents the St. Louis premiere of Sarah Kane's "4:48 Psychosis," a play about a young woman's psychotic breakdown, February 26 through March 7, 2009, at the Chapel, a Sanctuary for the Arts, located at 6238 Alexander Dr., in Clayton, Missouri. Performances are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. with a special student performance on Wednesday, March 4, 2009.

General admission tickets are $15.00 and can be purchased by calling 314-835-7415 or visiting www.slightlyoff.org. Tickets for the March 4 performance are $5.00 with a valid student ID.

"4:48 Psychosis" was the final play of Sarah Kane's brief career. Written from the point of view of someone with severe clinical depression, a condition from which the playwright suffered, the title of the play is derived from the time - 4:48 a.m. - when the playwright often awoke with a moment of clarity. Kane stated, "It's about a psychotic breakdown and what happens to a person's mind when the barriers which distinguish reality and different forms of imagination completely disappear, so that you no longer know the difference between your waking life and your dream life." Fellow British playwright David Greig wrote, "Kane mapped the darkest and most unforgiving internal landscapes: landscapes of violation...loneliness...power...mental collapse and, most consistently, the landscape of love."

The Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble was granted permission to present this play by Kane's brother based on an extensive proposal by the company. Pamela Reckamp, a core SATE member and director of "4:48 Psychosis" says, "As a movement-based company, the Ensemble is thrilled to bring Kanes vivid imagery and stark poetry to a physical place. There are elements of our ongoing training in Viewpoints, you can see the strength derived from Suzuki training and weve even drawn from the kind of movement seen in Pilobolus."

The Slightly Askew Theatre Ensembles mission is to create an artistic home for theatre artists based on continued training, collaboration and outreach, culminating in the telling of storiesboth old and newas an ensemble, through the exploration of words, movement, visuals and sound.
