Tri-County Symphonic Band Concert - United Nations Day
Our opening concert, United Nations Day is a panoply of music from different member nations.  France, South Korea, Spain, Germany, Norway and, of course, the United States of America will be visited as we explore the different musical flavors.  Our soloist, oboist Musician First Class Briana Tarby, will perform Legacy by Spanish composer Óscar Navarro. A world premier of a work by American composer John Wallace will take place as well as the band plays his Centurions; a piece that harkens back to the early Roman days.  Works by Darius Milhaud, John Barnes Chance, Paul Lincke and Johannes Hanssen round out the program.

Musician First Class Briana Tarby joined the United States Coast Guard Band as Co-Principal Oboe in September 2012 and has performed as a soloist with the Coast Guard Band multiple times. In the civilian world, Musician First Class Tarby is a well-respected oboist in Southern New England, performing regularly with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, and Salt Marsh Opera.

Musician First Class Tarby is the Co-Chair of the US Coast Guard Womens Leadership Initiative Connecticut-Rhode Island-Long Island Chapter planning local and virtual professional development and networking events; she is also on the global WLIs Womens Health and Well Being Subcommittee. Musician First Class Tarby is also a Change Agent in the US Coast Guard Diversity and Inclusion Education and Awareness Program, facilitating trainings and coaching individuals in the service as a certified coach.

Originally from Edison, New Jersey, Musician First Class Tarby was educated at Indiana Universitys Jacobs School of Music and The New Schools Mannes School of Music, winning concerto competitions at both schools. She spent summers studying at Aspen and Brevard, and her primary teachers are Andrew Adelson, Elaine Douvas, Roger Roe, and Linda Strommen. When not making oboe reeds, Musician First Class Tarby enjoys New England summers and traveling with her husband, Nicholas Citro.
