Limb Loss Rehabilitation: Critical Considerations in Amputee Care
Achieving optimal outcomes in limb loss rehabilitation requires a clinician to establish expertise in rehab best practice methodologies, understand the capabilities of prosthetic options, and appreciate the human dimensions involved. This course will present a holistic, interdisciplinary, longitudinal perspective on care for limb loss, from pre-surgical education, operative options, prosthetic training, to the comprehensive, lifelong approach to treatment and patient care. Speakers will include a national advocate for the limb loss population, a physiatrist, a surgeon, and a seasoned physical therapist skilled in lower extremity amputation care. Special attention will be given to the human experience of limb loss, post-amputation pain, critical points of decision-making in amputation care, and comprehensive methods of achieving robust, functional outcomes.
