Sweat
Sweat is a 2nd Pulitzer prize-winning drama by Lynn Nottage (Ruined, Intimate Apparel) that takes a deep dive into working-class America. Flipping back and forth between the years 2000 and 2008, we see the lives of a group of factory and steelworkers living in Reading, Pennsylvania. This is a poignant and authentic story that shines a light on what's it like to truly live the life of working-class Americans. Set between the time of the signing of NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement), and the American housing and stock market crash of 2008, The combination of these two forces wreak havoc on the working class, and in particular the factory and mills. As these people's lives begin to unravel: their jobs taken and sent across US borders, their finances decimated, their houses and livelihoods being ripped from them, these life-long friends are "pitted against one another in a heart-wrenching fight to stay afloat" (Nottage)
