Join Centennial Youth Ballet for Illuminations, a mixed-bill performance of classical and contemporary works at the Z. Alexander Looby Theater, April 22-24, 2022. Katie Eliason stages an uplifting excerpt from The Sleeping Beauty in which the Fairies perform a high-spirited dance for the wedding of Princess Aurora and Prince Désiré. She also stages an excerpt from Act III of Le Corsaire in which Seyd, a pasha, dreams of Medora and Gulnare dancing in a garden of blooming flowers. Illuminations also features three original works by Andrea Greene, Daniella Parisot, and Phylicia Roybal. Greene's neo-classical work for five dancers emphasizes sharpness and lines in a style made famous by George Balanchine while Parisot's more contemporary approach to ballet includes floor work and innovative partnering. Roybal and twelve dancers created a piece (including a filmed element) in response to living through endless boundaries and limitations of the last two years and says we reconstructed a world in which our isolation allowed us to find dimension within ourselves and within our communities. Christen Heilman costumes the concert with her stunning creations. Experience the versatility and artistry of our talented young dancers in a performance appropriate and engaging for all ages.
