MISHAP!
Akvavit Theatre presents their Winter-Spring 2014 production, Icelandic playwright Bjarni Jónsson's MISHAP!, directed by Akvavit Producing Artistic Director Chad Eric Bergman, translated by Hilmar Ramos and playing at The Side Project, 1439 W. Jarvis Ave., February 20 March 23. MISHAP! is a psychological thriller, as if produced by The Today Show. Through the blurred lines of morning TV programming, reality TV, and live theater, we see a couple's private life under a microscope. Humor and tragedy collide as we discover what really happened to the relationship. What was the mishap that made their lives worthy of prime time? Where do our private lives end and our public lives begin? Is there still a line? MISHAP! completes Akvavit's first "Nordic cycle." Having produced plays from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden in its short history, the company now presents its first Icelandic piece.
MISHAP! Also marks the first time the entire Chicago company is taking artistic roles in the same production. The cast includes: Bergen Anderson* (Jóhanna), Matthew Isler* (Halldór), Breahan Eve Pautsch* (Brynja), Sarah Nelson* (Rósa), Joshua Harris* (Daníel), Joe Giovannetti (Sven), Mark Litwicki* (Protester 1) and Kirstin Franklin* (Protester 2).
The crew for MISHAP! includes Chad Eric Bergman* (director, set designer), Wm. Bullion* (assistant director), Maggie Fullilove-Nugent (lighting designer), Christina Marcantonio (costumes), Catherine Connelly (stage manager), Antonio M. Gracas (sound), and Alan Wuesthoff (technical director).

Bjarni Jónsson's (playwright) latest work, MISHAP! (ÓHAPP!), was a Candidate for the Nordic Drama Award 2008 and premiered at the Icelandic National Theatre in September 2007. In 2004, Jónsson was awarded the Nordic Prize for Radio Drama for The Wheel of Sleep, a production done in collaboration with the band Múm.
Akvavit Theatre is a new voice in the Chicago theatre scene. Taking as our inspiration the striking landscapes of the five Nordic countriesharnessing the force of the glacier, in its powerful seeming stillness, the volcano, in its sudden white-hot eruption, and the arctic silence in betweenwe strive to find the universal through the voices of the Nordic world. This is our contribution to the American mosaic. And like our namesake drink, Akvavit brings a "strong spirit" to the plays, workshops and events that we produce. Skål, Skál, Kippis!
