Lunch & Learn with the Virginia Fair Housing Office
The mere mention of hoarding or hoarders will trigger the fascination with this condition, now considered a disability since May of 2013. Ever since the premier of shows about individuals involved with clinical hoarding, the fascination has grown. Though it may be a source education for some and while being "entertainment" for others, those who are dealing with family members and loved ones are overwhelmed and feel helpless. Landlords are often quick to evict the resident, without inquiring about a "reasonable accommodation". The Virginia Fair Housing Office began talking about Hoarding and the Virginia Fair Housing Law, two (2) years before the condition was confirmed as a disability.
Our Guest Speakers Marty Wegbreit Senior Director of Litigation for the Central Virginia Legal Aid Society (VRLTA) and Helen Hardiman, Assistant Attorney General and Policy Advisor Office of the Attorney General (VFHL) will make us aware of the protection offered each law. Bring your questions & concerns with you. This is the first topic of discussion from the cancelled Hoarding and the Virginia Fair Housing Law Event.
