Finn Parker Presents an evening with Pipeworks Brewing
Finn Parker is a trader. I mean a SERIOUS beer trader. Seems like everytime we're looking to get our hands on something cool, Finn always responds with, "I know a guy..." He's a good friend to have. The best part about Finn is that the dude likes to share. As a result, we put our heads together and came up with an idea for an intimate event that we could put on in the small private room just off the bar at Urge. Limited to 12 guests, it will be a chance to taste some amazing beers that Finn has gotten his hands on. All beers for this event are brewed by Pipeworks in Chicago. The beers to be included are:
Ninja vs. Unicorn: Ninja vs. Unicorn celebrates the epic battle between two of the biggest hop-heads of lore. Brewed with over five pounds of hops per barrel, this unfiltered double IPA is sure to please the most discerning hop lover. Whether you're rooting for the mythical horned horse or the deadly assassin of the east, we hope you'll enjoy Ninja vs. Unicorn.
Marilime Ninja: MariLime Law Ninja is a new Imperial IPA brewed with lime zest and lime juice. All of that lime is very present on the nose, along with some herbal hop tones. On the palate, that lime is definitely at the forefront, but we don't find it overpowering at all. If anything, the lime juice adds a pleasant freshness and some racy acidity, and actually tones down the hop profile a bit. Never fear hopheads, there is still quite a bit of high octane, tropical hop notes coming through, and they certainly linger on the finish, but there isn't a stringent bitterness in this beer. At 9.5 percent alcohol content, MariLime Law Ninja is an intense, yet fresh take on an Imperial IPA that we recommend drinking immediately.
Raspberry Abduction: Raspberries, crap load tons of raspberries here. I mean a lot of raspberry. It almost masks the roast and chocolate undertones, but manages to not completely take over. Smells just like a chocolate covered raspberry truffle. The nose is wonderful. A veritable deluge of raspberry. From beneath the fruity onslaught, roasted malt and a bit of hop bitterness surface. Any complexity here is almost hidden by the raspberry flavors. Whereas the raspberry was sweet on the nose, it is more bitter with the taste. The finish is bitter and tart, almost acidic, from the raspberries. This was more tart/bitter/acidic than I expected.
Abduction Coffee Break: Rich coffee roast up front with a good intensity. Creamy vanilla smoothes out the coffee a bit, revealing some dark chocolate and hints of booze. Coffee is showcased really nicely here. Strong coffee flavor from the first sip...intense, bitter, roasty. A little bit astringent, very reminiscent of black coffee. Plenty of coffee, pressed & steamed, but the vanilla was a very good choice, balancing it out nicely. Roast in the middle if distinct from the coffee & I like it. Closes with a cutting bitterness. Drinks lower than 10.5%, I'd have believed this was a porter if you'd told me so.
Orange Truffle Abduction: Earth, both rich and refreshing, the bright juices of your primordial civilizations quench even the coldest desire's of deep space. Eventually you will succumb and offer us the sweet orange flesh of your humanity and the chocolate longing of your young will. Or did you think there would be someone to deliver you? The aroma of this beer is the best part, sweet milk chocolate candy bar, and cocoa powder, so smooth in the nose. The flavor brings some orange and chocolate blended so well with a bit of a bitter chocolate and zesty orange ending blended well on the tongue. This is a delicious orange chocolate bar, like Lindt but less orange.
Each attendee will receive about 5oz of each beer. Your ticket gets you entry to the event and a healthy portion of unhealthy (but delicious) food provided by Urge. Finn will host the event, provide the beer and "share" it amongst the attendees.
