EXPLORING ENERGY & DESIGN: SMART SOLUTIONS FOR THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT with Alan Thein Durning and Jason F. McLennan
As the prospect of global economic crisis hits home, there is hope. The work being done to combat climate change through smart community design, green building, and energy research gives communities the opportunity to respond to economic crisis with common sense solutions. This seminar will highlight work being done right here in our backyard, and explain what needs to be done in the future to ensure the sustainability of our region.

Alan Durning is the founder of Sightline Institute, a think tank that observes trends in the Northwest environment and community and offers solutions for the region to implement. He wrote "How Much is Enough? The Consumer Society and the Future of the Earth", and is writing a series for Sightlines blog: The year of living car-lessly.

Jason McLennan is the CEO of Cascadia Region Green Building Council and a nationally recognized leader in green architecture, sustainable building, and especially in setting new standards for energy and resource efficiency. He is author of The Philosophy of Sustainable Design, a textbook that is used in over 60 colleges and universities around North America.
