New Restorations of Arthur Bressan's PASSING STRANGERS and FORBIDDEN LETTERS

Join us for the Chicago premiere of these exciting restorations!

PASSING STRANGERS
Arthur Bressan, Jr., USA, 1974 DCP

"The joyful revelation of what must be the very finest personal and artistic success in the history of gay erotic cinema." - Lee Atwell, Gay Sunshine

One of cinema's first coming-out stories, this debut feature from pioneering gay filmmaker Arthur J. Bressan, Jr. (GAY U.S.A., BUDDIES) tells the story of Robert, a young, closeted gay man who finds love, acceptance, and activism through a Berkley Barb ad. Critically acclaimed upon release and long-unavailable since, PASSING STRANGERS is a romantic portrait of the gay liberation era that still resonates today. Newly restored by the Bressan Project from its original film elements.

FORBIDDEN LETTERS
Arthur Bressan, Jr., USA, 1979 DCP

What Bressan has given us is what weve wanted to see for so long, something neither Hollywood nor the specifically gay (which is to say porno) movie producers have given us: the gay love fantasy.  - The Advocate

Shot in the midst of the gay communitys fight against Anita Bryants "Save Our Children" campaign, this critically acclaimed feature from Bressan, Jr. is a touching look at memory, fantasy, and the psychological tolls of the closet.

Larry, a young, gay man, is trying to pass the time on the day his older lover Richard is set to be released from prison. Unable to clear his head through casual sex, he reads through his letters to Richard, letters he knew he could never send out of fear that outing his lover would lead to a harsher sentence. As Richards release draws nearer, will the spark still be there when he gets out? Long unseen since its release, this landmark film is finally available in a new, uncut restoration by The Bressan Project.
