Now What
Akron, OH--The Center for Applied Theatre and Active Culture (CATAC) and New World Performance Laboratory (NWPL) are pleased to present the world premiere of TAPIT/new works production of Now What on November 22 and 23 at 8pm in the Balch Street Theatre, 220 South Balch Street, Akron OH, 44302. TAPIT/new works Ensemble Theater from Madison Wisconsin brings zombies to Akron with its one-act comedy about what happens when everything falls apart. A successful businesswoman dealing with identity theft, a barista facing the end of college and a relationship, a gender-ambiguous prepper and a mysterious but not well-wrapped woman are thrown together in a coffee shop when the zombie apocalypse breaks out. As they struggle for survival, they gain new insights into themselves, the meaning of community and how to fight the undead.

Directed by Meghan Randolph and written by Danielle Dresden, Now What, will be performed by Nedra Bobo, Francisco Torres, Donna Peckett and Dresden, with costumes by Rebecca Sites, scenic design by Christopher R. Dunham, stage management by Janine Gardner, and guest appearances by several zombies.
Audience members will have a chance to share their thoughts on going over the edge in post-performance discussions facilitated by members of New World Performance Lab and TAPIT/new works.
Established in 1985, TAPIT/new works creates, produces and performs original works, collaborating with artists working in the disciplines of theater, tap dance, visual arts and music; brings the arts to audiences of all ages and backgrounds; encourages participation in the arts through outreach; and enriches the lives of individuals and communities. While in residence in Akron, the TAPIT/new works ensemble will also conduct master classes at area schools and a public workshop on Saturday, November 23 from 2pm-4pm at The Balch Street Theatre. Akron performances and workshops are part of a touring exchange program between TAPIT/new works ensemble and New World Performance Lab, which will include NWPL traveling to Madison, WI in December to conduct workshops and to perform a new production of Franca Rame and Dario Fo's Medea, featauring NWPL member Debora Totti. This project is supported in part by The Network of Ensemble Theaters, NET/TEN Travel & Exchange Network, with lead funding from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
