BANDS:
Planet Zydeco
PLANET ZYDECO is an exciting New England-based zydeco band that captures the essence of traditional rural-style accordion-driven dance music as it is played in clubs and dance halls in southwest Louisiana today. Bandmembers hail from the tri-state area of southern Vermont, western Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The Planets funky syncopated sound includes Rose Sinclair on accordion, Peter Pettengill and Nick Keil on twin electric guitars and harmony vocals, Alan Bradbury on bass, Paul McTaggart on drums, and Suzanne Wozniak on rubboard. The rubboard, or frottoir, as it is known in Louisiana, is made of corrugated metal, worn like a vest and played with spoons or bottle openers, and is a rhythmic trademark of the zydeco sound. The band plays a popular mix of up-tempo songs, as well as slower blues-inspired numbers and traditional waltzes for enthusiastic audiences throughout the Northeast.
Easy Street Bayou A Louisiana roots band headed by Vermont Easy Streets Lisa Brande and Mark Trichka of Vermont and formerly Louisiana; and joined on drums and rubboard by popular musicians, Jeff Potter and Betsy Dawn (BeeDee) Williams. Mark and Lisa have been steeped in Louisiana music ever since residing there for part of the winter every year playing gigs with Louisiana Cajun and Zydeco musicians, as well as playing every summer for 20 years with former RI based Slippery Sneakers Zydeco Band. In their Bayou incarnation, Easy Street focuses on the fiddle, and electric guitar to showcase great American Zydeco, Cajun, old R&B, and Swamp Pop music out of the bayous, back roads, and French Quarter. Come get into a Mardi Gras state of mind, with Easy Street Bayou.
Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys Jeffery Broussard has long been respected as one of the greatest accordion players to ever grace the beautiful Creole culture and for that matter the world. He is one of the most influential accordionists and vocalists in modern Zydeco music, Jeffery Broussard continues to be one of the genres most dynamic performers. He has continually been an innovator, beginning his career with traditional Creole Zydeco music playing drums in his fathers band, Delton Broussard & The Lawtell Playboys, then moving on to develop the nouveau Zydeco sound in Zydeco Force, now returning to the more traditional Zydeco sound with his own band, Jeffery Broussard and The Creole Cowboys.
