Water Watchers Volunteer Stream Monitor Training - Introduction to Water Monitoring AND Physical/Chemical Monitoring (May 26, June 2, June 12)
*Only one registration is needed per family!  Signing up for the May 26th class will register you for both the May 26th class and the June 2nd class.  

Volunteer Water Watchers visit a location on a local creek once per month to conduct a variety of water quality monitoring tests and record their data.

To become a volunteer monitor:

1.Attend our series of Zoom-based classes and in-person practical training. Monitors will need to attend all 3 sessions.

2.Choose a location on a Kirkland creek to monitor.

3.Monitor at your location once per month.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Introduction to Water Monitoring
Wednesday, May 26, 7-8 p.m.
Online class via Zoom
Learn about creeks and watersheds, types of pollutants, how community members can gather credible data about their local waterbodies, action strategies they can employ to improve water quality while engaged in Community-Based Water Monitoring.

Physical/Chemical Monitoring
Wednesday, June 2, 7-8 p.m.
Online class via Zoom
Water temperature, dissolved oxygen, and pH are all important variables for local salmonids and other creatures that live in our creeks. Clear, clean water is important too. Learn to use a citizen science kit to monitor these important variables.  
Practical Skills Training

Saturday, June 12, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. OR 1-4 p.m.
In-person training
Juanita Beach Park (9703 NE Juanita Drive)
Complete your training with a hands-on practical session. Well perform all the water chemistry tests using a LaMotte kit, including measuring turbidity with a turbidity tube.
This practical training is the final step to get certified as a Global Water Watch water monitor with our program.

** Registered participants will receive reminder emails before each class with details and training materials.**
