THE ASTRONOMER NEWWORKS PLAY FESTIVAL
Set in 1848, "The Astronomer" is a comedy based on the true story of American astronomer, Maria Mitchell, who is forced to confront the Vaticans official astronomer, Father Francesco De Vico, when he takes credit for her discovery of a comet. Upon arriving at the Vatican Observatory, Maria finds herself in the midst of an Italian civil uprising against Austrian rule. While trying to make her mark as a respected scientist, she is swept into a world of uppity Harvard professors, romantic Italian revolutionaries, and uncompromising Catholic priests.
