Due to the success of our recent performances, we have added two dates to allow more people to enjoy the show!

Ten years ago, critic Anne Midgette of The New York Times coined the phrase "Indie Opera" in the article "Never Say Die in Indie Opera," which featured the world premiere performance of Yoav Gal's comic opera THE DWARF, staged in a tiny storefront by an adventurous Brooklyn opera company, Vertical Player Repertory (VPR).

This year, in celebration of the tenth anniversary of that performance and therefore perhaps the birth of "Indie Opera," VPR has revived THE DWARF in a striking, site-specific production directed by acclaimed multimedia artist and director Doug Fitch. The performers invite the audience to wander through a rambling, raw midtown space, peering into rooms and settings which the story inhabits.  Two gala evenings were completely full, prompting VPR to add two performances on the 5th and 7th of December to accommodate demand.

Doug Fitch will be your host for the evening, leading you and the cast through the labyrinthine environs of our secret performance space, The Blue Building. Don't miss this one-of-a-kind event!

VPR premiered Gal's quirky first opera, THE DWARF, in 2003.  THE DWARF tells of the Lady Katherina Kaiser and the attention she arouses by wearing a provocatively capacious dress. What...or whom...is she concealing under there?
