George Ivanovich Gurjieff was an extraordinary man who searched for the hidden knowledge--ancient wisdom and secrets that can facilitate the development of human potential. He devoted his life to a wide range of activities including intellectual study, self-observation, daily meditations, and sacred dances or "movements". He was born in Alexandropol, in the Caucus region of what is now Russia, in the 1870's--and traveled throughout the East and Egypt in his search. He studied in many Sufi traditions and in all probability was in contact with the remnants of one of the most ancient group of wise men, The Sarmoun brotherhood.

"I was particularly drawn to this work as it is one of the few established paths that has movement as one of its practicies. I have studied with James Tomarelli over a number of years. He is a great teacher. The practices are physically healing and they also expanded my ability to see clearly and make quick, intelligent choices. The fact that the Movements are group dances is also a plus. Margaret Monsour is the master accompanist for this work, which is very tied to music." Nana Shineflug (workshop host)
