New Quorum Presents Hamid Drake with Rob Wagner

The New Quorum and Valid Records present world famous drummer Hamid Drake in a house concert with New Orleans based saxophonist Rob Wagner at 2435 Esplanade Ave. The concert will be recorded by Mark Bingham and produced by Benjamin Lyons, the team behind Drake and Wagner's critically praised TRIO cd recorded December 2005, for future release on Valid Records. The evening will open with Hamid Drake and Jeff Zielinski performing a duet on North African frame drums. Seating is very limited.

Hamid Drake is the first Artist-In-Residence at the New Quorum, and his performance is made possible through the co-operation the New Orleans International Sound Exchange (N.O.I.S.E.,) and he will be performing Tuesday November 5 and Wednesday November 6 at the H.I.P. Festival presented by N.O.I.S.E.

The New Quorum Residency Program provides artists with the opportunity to create work in a new context and to interact with the New Orleans community. This national and international Artist Residency Program is uniquely focused in initiating and promoting the dialogue between artists and the public, and in generating a better-informed and recurring audience for New Orleans music, art, and culture. The residency encourages artists working with issues of social consciousness, community, and diversity. Contrary to traditional residencies that offers artists the opportunity to concentrate on an idea already in the works and providing a "tranquil" environment in which to think, plan, and work. The Quorum Residency Program will thrive through the resident's interaction with the community and a substantive contribution to the New Orleans community in the form of a talk, class, or performance of their work.
