Imagination & Intellect: Conversation on Black Creativity with Dr. Charles Johnson
Treat yourself to a night of invigorating and intellectually stimulating conversation with Dr. Charles Johnson, facilitated by Vivian Phillips.

Come explore the rich and complex subject of space and creativity in America in a talk that will touch on Dr. Johnson's amazing career and the challenges he faced in developing his works. The creative space is an often sacred place for many artists and creators alike and can be the crucial factor in the production of good versus great work. Dr. Johnson will be expounding on his own creative space and how he functions within it. Attendees will also hear more about, for the first time, his new book The Adventures of Emery Jones, Boy Science Wonder, co-authored with his writer/artist daughter Elisheba Johnson. The conversation will be facilitate by Vivian Phillips.

Dr. Charles Johnson is a novelist, essayist, literary critic, short-story writer, philosopher, and professor emeritus at the University of Washington, Seattle. He has published thousands of drawings as a cartoonist and illustrator, two collections, Black Humor (1970) and Half-Past Nation-Time (1972), and created, co-produced and hosted the 1970 PBS drawing program "Charlie's Pad." He  is a MacArthur fellow, the recipient of an American Academy of Arts and Letters Award for Literature and a National Book Award for his novel Middle Passage.
