I.D.E.A Series #1: Cultivating Equity
Zoom

Oregon Dance Education Organization(ODEO) is proud to present the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (I.D.E.A) Series, a series of online professional development workshops and panel discussion for dance educators and the dance community. Monthly sessions will feature leaders and experts from Oregon and the Pacific NW leading the way towards a more inclusive, equitable, diverse, and accessible dance community in Oregon.

SESSION #1: "Cultivating Equity" with HeARTWork Collective
How do social position, bias and systemic oppression (e.g. racism, classism, adultism, sexism, etc.) play out in our institutions and communities? What levers do each of us have to create equitable and inclusive environments for all? We'll explore foundational definitions and concepts of social identity. Participants will develop and practice strategies for interrupting oppressive dynamics and gain a deeper understanding of their power to build equity.

This two hour interactive workshop is the kick-off event in our I.D.E.A Series and intended to provide a foundation of knowledge, terminology, and information for future sessions. ODEO strongly encourages participants to attend this workshop first.

About HeARTWork Collective:
"HeARTWork Collective is a consulting entity, officially formed in spring of 2016. Tina LaPadula and Daemond Arrindell began facilitating racial equity and social justice workshops as a team in 2014, working with schools, community partners and arts & cultural organizations around Seattle. We come to the work of social justice from a unique perspective and approach, bringing our creativity, teaching artistry and community development work into play.

As facilitators we strive to build shared language and frameworks to ensure understanding, and that can be utilized and built upon in workplaces. We challenge partners and participants to step outside their comfort zones, and remind our collaborators that inaction is just as much a choice as action. We, the HeArtWork Collective, consider ourselves to be lifelong learners, and do not ask anything of our partners and allies that we do not practice ourselves.

We are excited to be in a critical learning community together where we can look at where we have been historically and intentionally look forward to how we can build a more socially just world. More information at https://www.heartworkcollective.org

All sessions will be online via Zoom. Attendees will have access to the video recording of the session. Those unable to attend a session live can purchase a ticket and receive the video recording after the event.

Discounts available to ODEO members, students, or those purchasing a whole series pass. Scholarships are available. Please apply on ODEO's website, www.oregondeo.org.

Professional development and clock hours credit is available upon request.

VIDEO RECORDING RELEASE: ODEO will be recording the online video sessions via Zoom for archival and educational purposes. ODEO may also use images or video from the recordings for organizational, marketing, or fundraising purposes. Attendees or ticket-holders will access to a copy of the video after the event for their personal use only. Videos of sessions may not be used, broadcast, uploaded or shared with any other person, platform, or entity without expressed permission from ODEO.
