CataCOMA

A frightfully entertaining evening is set for Nov. 2 in the historic City Market catacombs. "CataCOMA" will feature live entertainment, Electronic Dance Music DJs, Sun King beer and food provided by City Market merchants. Costumes for the event are recommended, but not required. The event, which runs from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m., is open to people 18 years of age or older. Tickets may be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets for $15 in advance, or $20 at the door.

Although traditionally "catacombs" are considered with spiritual connotation as underground burial vaults, historians and heretics alike also suggest that contemporary catacombs were used as secret passageways for war refugees and treasure smugglers, as well as hideouts for criminals.
Indianapolis's catacombs were created in the 1886 construction of Tomlinson Hall and are some of the oldest and best preserved catacombs in the United States. The 22,000-square-foot space is rich with unique masonry detailing and architectural techniques that would be extremely difficult to replicate today. The beautifully intricate barrel ceiling, limestone and brick archways make any exploration into the tunnel the ultimate adventure for all ages.
