The Vent storytelling Series - 10/20/13

James Temple
"Spinning records, the truth and my wheels: My roundabout path into journalism"
---------------------------------
While James' peers dedicated their evenings to the school paper and their breaks to internships at major publications, he was focused on more worldly concerns: Spreading a message of peace, love, unity and respect. On thedance floor. As a DJ.
But upon graduation, James found himself in a cold, competitive job market that failed to appreciate the unique blend of skills he'd developed passing out club flyers, beat-matching Deee-liteto Donna Summer and trading his time for pitchers of Schlitz.

Kari Kiernan
"Stitched Up and Stoned"
------------------------------
The one good thing about elective oral surgery is that, when you schedule it, you get to decree the exact date of the worst thing that will happen to you all year. That's why when--three weeks later--your faith in the curative power of Tums is rocked to the very core, the phrase "worse than childbirth" is being bandied about by medical professionals, and you're vomiting into the emergency room sink, you begin to suspect that you and fate use different calendars.

William Winters
"Rocketboots to the Motherfuckin' Rescue?"
-------------------------------
William didn't even want to go to his late-night shift at Louie's Cafe. But when he stood up to two guys intent on stealing seafood poboys from the restaurant, things took an unexpectedly dramatic turn and William went on the ride of -- and for -- his life. How far would yougo to save a couple of seafood poboys? Probably not as far as William went.

Sandy Stec
"The Hippie That Stole My Heart.....and my Toilet Paper."
-----------------------------
On a lonely, soul-searching weekend in Reno; Sandy met a Burning Man Hippie that left her confused, inspired, and slightly turned on. And oh yeah- out of toilet paper.

Derrick Spiva
"Uncle Harold is Going To Have a Good Time No Matter What"
-----------------------------

How did Uncle Harold turn up with the only working cellphones in New York City? What happened to the other cellphones? Why does he keep disappearing? He did drive the family of nine in a van from Atlanta to New York City. All along the way no one even noticed he was gone until he re-appeared. Where'd he go?  Where is he now?
