[BPC Turns 10!] ALOUD 20th Anniversary
This fall marks the 20th Anniversary of the publication of ALOUD:! Voices from the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, the seminal anthology that launched the birth of the Spoken Word Movement. To mark the moment -- and the reopening of the Bowery Poetry Club -- co-editors Miguael Algarin and Bob Holman will feature at a reading celebration at the Club on Sun, Oct 13, 7pm. Algarin, Founder of the Nuyorican and Professor Emeritis from Rutgers, will read and sing. His co-editor Bob Holman, who founded the Bowery Poetry Club in 2002, will co-host the evening with Mahogany Brown, the current host of the renowned Nuyorican Poets Cafe Poetry Slam, which Holman began in 1989. Among the poets confirmed: Edwin Torres, Maggie Estep, Ed Morales, Dana Bryant, Carl Hancock Rux. Tributes will be made to Pedro Pietri, Sekou Sunduata and others.
