Hai-ye Ni, cello and Lin Hong, piano--Evening of Chamber Music
Hai-ye Ni, principal cellist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and widely-acclaimed pianist Lin Hong will perform an evening of chamber music in the Mt. Tamalpais Methodist Church in Mill Valley, a venue with superb accoustics for chamber music. Their program: Beethoven: Sonata #3 in A Major op. 69; Bruce Adolphe "Couple"; Franck: Sonata in A Major; Piazzola: Grand Tango.

Hai-ye Ni came into prominence as the youngest recipient to ever receive first prize at the Naumburg International Cello Competition. Her critically acclaimed New York City debut at Alice Tully Hall followed in 1991. She was the unanimous choice for first prize at the International Paolo Cello Competition in Finland in 1996 and won second place in the International Rostropovich Competition in France the following year. She received the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2001. Born in Shanghai, Hai-ye Ni studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and relocated to  Marin as a Virtuoso Program scholarship student at the San Domenico School in San Anselmo. She won the 1986 and 1987 Marin Music Chest Scholarship Awards before soloing with the Marin Symphony in 1988. She continued her musical education at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the Juilliard School of Music and with William Pleeth in London. In 1997 Hai-ye Ni was featured on the cover of "Strings" magazine which proclaimed her "the cellist to watch."

Lin Hong was accepted by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music at age 9. He later studied at USC School of Music and received a Masters of Music from Juilliard. He is the winner of several international piano competitions. Lin Hong has given numerous performances in Southern California, Europe, Iceland and China. In New York he has given solo and chamber music recitals at Carnegie Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center Theater, Juilliard School, among others.
