ABOUT KIYA HEARTWOOD AND CHRISTA HILLHOUSE:

The music of singer songwriter Kiya Heartwood (of Stealin' Horses and Wishing Chair) and bassist Christa Hillhouse (of 4 Non Blondes) is a powerful combination. Both come from successful Indie and major label backgrounds, and that experience delivers both on stage and in recordings. These women can really play, and Kiya's songs never disappoint.

After more than 30 years honing her craft, award winning singer/songwriter Kiya Heartwood's music is described as "soulful confessions, political broadside, and a wicked groove." Her musical influences have ranges from punk, reggae, and rap in the early years, to roots Americana and folk rock more recently.

Much like a good curry, the blend of spices Kiya infuses into her songwriting and performances brings a complexity and diversity that can't quite be labeled or boxed in. She is a storyteller and a poet with a rock and roll sensibility.

Heartwood's most recent solo album, Bold Swimmer, is garnering rave reviews from serious music aficionados. It was produced by Mark Hallman, who works with artists such as Eliza Gilkyson, Ani Di Franco, and Oasis. Richard Marcus calls it, "a damn good album," and Lane Gosnay says Kiya "delivers keen lyrical folk sensibility through a rock n roll power grid.
