This material features mostly original songs written by Adam Shulman with a standard or two thrown in. Much of the inspiration comes from the Jazz Messengers tradition in that there's an abundance of swing and a good dose of the blues. The alto replacing the trombone lends for a slightly smoother sound and a higher and often more crunchy harmony with lots of half steps between the horns. The idea was to create compositions firmly rooted in the bebop and post-bop tradition with a little bit of modern seasoning in the harmony.

The band features the stellar Joel Berhman on trumpet who can be seen playing with Sheila E, Lavay Smith, Marcus Shelby and many other Bay Area as well as national luminaries.

Harvey Wainapel plays alto saxophone and in addition to being a fine bandleader himself, his credentials include a ten month stint with Ray Charles and performances with McCoy Tyner, Joe Henderson, Johnny Coles and Billy Hart.

Anton Schwartz plays tenor saxophone and also is a very fine bandleader with three critically acclaimed albums under his belt and one more on the way. Anton splits his time between Seattle and the Bay Area and is very active on both scenes.

John Wiitala plays bass and his credentials include playing with Joe Henderson, James Moody, Benny Golson, Mark Levine, Scott Hamilton, Jessica Williams and the list goes on and on. He is one of the very top call bass players in the Bay Area.

Smith Dobson plays drums and has worked with great jazz artists such as Bobby Hutcherson, Red Rodney, Joh Handy, Sheila Jordan, Red Hollaway, Noel Jewekes and is very active on the scene as a sideman and with his own groups where he can also be seen playing saxophone and vibraphone.

Adam Shulman plays piano and in addition to being a very active sideman, he has many projects as a leader including 2 albums of original songs, an album of arrangements of Billy Strayhorn tunes and a trio project with Smith Dobson and John Wiitala. Adam has played with many fine jazz artists including Bobby Hutcherson, Miguel Zenon, Stefon Harris, Paula West, Marcus Shelby, Willie Jones III, and Dayna Stephens.
