Saturday Film Night - The Comic Strip Presents...
Courtesy of Bath Comedy, Widcombe Social Club presents three of the most popular Comic Strip films in one evening, to kick off a new Saturday Film Night:

1. Five Go Mad In Dorset (1982)
In the 1950s four children, Anne, described as a 'proper little housewife',the rather butch George who has an unhealthy relationship with her dog Timmy and their brothers Dick and Julian, whose relationship seems to be more than fraternal, go on a cycling holiday in Dorset where their flair for detection - plus their snobbery and xenophobia - gets a whole string of suspicious characters arrested. 30min

2. A Fistful Of Travellers' Cheques (1984)
Two students calling themselves Carlos and Miguel arrive in Spain dressed as gunslingers to live out their dream of being in a spaghetti Western. At a cafe in a remote town they meet two Australian girls who have picked up a scruffy hitch-hiker and a would-be rapist dressed as a matador. 37min

3. Mr Jolly Lives Next Door (1988)
A couple of bored escorts find themselves suddenly involved with a hit-gang and an ax-murderer - Mr. Jolly. Gratuitous violence, rivers of blood and maximum hilarity, all rolled into one. 49min

Starring performers from London's "Comic Strip" comedy club and their friends - including Peter Richardson, Adrian Edmondson, Jennifer Saunders, Nigel Planer, Dawn French, Robbie Coltrane, Rik Mayall, Keith Allen and Peter Cook - the films are loved for their high sense of parody of previous films, literature, and generally everyone in sight.
"The Comic Strip" offered audiences an alternative to the 'safe' humour of its day. The show left no taboo unturned - with shocking and often offensive portrayals of violence, sex, bestiality, and explicit drug use (not to mention all the swearing and puerile fart-gags)., and drew a cult following for its anti-establishment views.

Covid-safe conditions throughout, bar open (table service), with tables for up to 6 people - open from 6.30pm to 11.00pm.
Tickets are £6 for non-members and £5 for members.
Film Screenings start at 7.30pm.
