Herbal Facial Care Make Along (Live virtual Class)
Herbal Spa Make-Along: Facial Care

This is exactly what you are hoping it is: a virtual group spa with instruction in using everyday ingredients and basic herbs for three herbal facial care treatments. Youll tune in from your kitchen with the materials on the list provided below, and well make and apply them together step by step.

First, we will learn about the benefits of facial steams, and various herbs for facial steams, then we will all make one together. The herbs  I have chosen for our steam are chamomile and lavender, which will be relaxing, but also cleansing and soothing to the skin. Feel free to add others you have around, or specific herbs for your skin type.

Second, we will learn about facial scrubs and cleansing grains, what different ingredients might be added. Then well make a gentle oat cleansing grains recipe together and Ill demonstrate how to apply it.

Third, well learn a bit about natural facial masks, what ingredients you can add and what they do. Then well create a papaya face mask together and apply it. There will likely be laughs as we slather ourselves with orange pulp!

This class is designed as a three step facial detoxification treatment that can be done 1-2 times a week. Ill give recommendations on what to follow this up with to make sure your skin stays hydrated at the end of class. You can expect to learn about many different commonplace ingredients that can be used for high quality skincare and their specific uses, and you can also expect to immerse yourself in a relaxing spa with virtual community.

The idea for this class came recently during the first aid class I co-taught when we were doing a peppermint facial steam and everyone asked for more. Theres something magical about this make-along format where we can be in the comfort of our own homes, but learning a new skill, practicing self care, and socializing with community. When I started Adiantum School, my main goal was to create community around passion for  plants and healing. I have felt that now more than ever as I offer these virtual classes, and get to know your kitchen, cats and children. If youre new to the community, come on in! The door is always open.

ZOOM CLASSES

Due to COVID-19, I am currently offering live virtual classes. We can interact just as in a real classroom (with audio and video), but without the danger of spreading COVID. So far, people are loving the new possibility of tuning in from home.

How to join the zoom call:

I will send you a link to the scheduled conference call to the email you provide at registration. When it's time for class, you will follow that link (having already created your zoom account) and join the call. You may join with just audio, or just video. The call will start 10 minutes prior to the start of class so we can get settled in and technical difficulties worked out. I recommend using something with audio and video capabilities (phones or laptop computers work well).

ABOUT THE TEACHER:

Natalie runs the Adiantum School of Plant Medicine, a local herb school in Seattle, where she teaches classes on plant ID, medicine making, and holistic herbalism. She has spent several years acquiring and synthesizing knowledge about Western Herbalism, PNW Materia Medica, nutrition, and Chinese Medicine. She is particularly passionate about traditional assessment techniques, the effects of emotions on the physical body, and holistic models of understanding imbalance. She also loves to forage and grow medicinal plants of all kinds, because cultivating a direct relationship with the living plant is not only educational but very healing. All in all, she is an empiricist at heart who loves experimentation and exploration into the possibilities of nourishing and strengthening our bodies and souls. As a teacher, Natalie is flexible, engaging and multi-sensory. She has extensive teaching experience, and is always looking for ways to keep things fresh and exciting.
