Visit MANITOGA, the House, Studio and Woodland Garden of pioneer industrial designer, Russel Wright (1904-1976). Tour Dragon Rock, Wright's experimental home which he built onto the rock ledge of an abandoned quarry while masterfully orchestrating the surrounding landscape into a series of outdoor rooms of varying character and delight.

General admission is $25; $20 for Seniors, Students and Members of Manitoga, docomomo, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Native Plant Center and Storm King, and Metro-North Riders with proof of purchase*; $15 for children 5 to 12 years (children under 5 not permitted). Tours are led by professional guides and limited to 16 people. Advance online ticket purchase required.

Visitors follow the upper Quarry path to Dragon Rock. Along the way, the tour features stunning views of the House and Studio, an ascending stone staircase, a field of mountain laurel, and the exquisite moss rooms. Visitors approach Dragon Rock by crossing a majestic waterfall via a wood plank bridge. Interior spaces are defined by expanses of glass, innovative materials use, and seamless connections to outside terraces. The Tour concludes by following a stepping stone path over the Quarry Pool dam to the Visitor/Guide House.

As part of the Artist Residency Program, Manitoga presents work by New York based artist Anne Lindberg, and British composer Pete M. Wyer. Both works find inspiration in and community with Nature at Manitoga.

In her two-part drawing series cycles of seeing, Lindberg's palette of thousands of colored parallel lines will transition from cool to warm as summer becomes fall at Manitoga, reflecting concerns of time, sequence and causality. Lindberg's works unfold at the pace of her step as she pulls lines across a pliant mat board, and she finds context for her work within a long tradition of other walking artists. To these, we might add Russel Wright who routinely walked and was inspired by his seventy-five acres of woodlands through the years.

Near the House and Studio, Wright designed the Morning Path to lead east through a woodland bathed in early morning light. An offshoot of the path brings us to Pete M. Wyer's iForest within Wright's theatrical setting of towering boulders and framed views of the Hudson River Valley. Over twenty-four audio speakers will feature a 72-voice choir singing primarily in the indigenous Mohawk language a western response to the Mohawk Thanksgiving Ceremony.

Visitors meet at Manitoga's Visitor/Guide House next to the parking lot located at 584 Route 9D in Garrison, NY. The guide will arrive just before the tour begins. Tours last 90 minutes and are conducted rain or shine. Please wear sensible walking shoes and dress for weather.

Visitors must be at least 5 years old and able to negotiate uneven ground, several bridge crossings with no handrails and a series of 40 stone steps. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A MODERATE HIKE.

Pets, backpacks, large bags, tripods, extension poles and selfie-sticks are not permitted.
