Oratorio - THE CREATION by Haydn, presented by Symphony Chorus of New Orleans
Symphony Chorus of New Orleans presents one of Franz Josef Haydn's greatest compositions, the oratorio titled THE CREATION.
Haydn was deeply religious and considered THE CREATION his greatest work. He wrote some of his most luminous & inspired music as settings for words taken from the Biblical books of Genesis & the Psalms, as well as by John Milton's Paradise Lost.
At the last performance Haydn attended, he was so frail that he had to be carried via an armchair. When applause interrupted the chorus, he is said to have pointed upward, saying, "Not from me everything comes from up there!"
The soloists are soprano Joy Meade, tenor Robert Wagner, and bass Joel Colman. Symphony Chorus of New Orleans will be joined by members of the Delgado Community College Chorus. ======================================================================= Based upon the COVID rules currently in place (Feb-2022), all attendees of the performance will need to show proof of vaccinations or a negative COVID-test within the prior 72 hours of the performance (between March 24th & 27th).
