UNPAVED: Impressions of a Home Lost
Home is the primary connection between ourselves and the rest of the world. Our lives can be mapped by the places we have laid down roots and shaped by the process of being unrooted either forcibly or by happenstance.
In New Mexico Dance Projects full-length work UNPAVED: Impressions of a Home Lost, Artistic Director, Scarlett Wynne, seeks to bring awareness to the topic of displacement by identifying the commonalities we all share in our search for home and belonging. Choreographed by New Mexico Dance Project with music and lighting design by local collaborators Spencer Olsen and Jon Haas, UNPAVED explores the emotional and physical response connected to a loss of home by depicting the journey of two individuals searching for belonging without a clear point of reference. New Mexico Dance Project desires for UNPAVED to encourage questioning and reminiscing of our personal connection to home and the reasoning behind its significance. *Attendees of the evening performance will be invited to participate in a live panel discussion with local organizations fighting to develop awareness on the topic of displacement faced by residents of the Santa Fe community. The evening will be dedicated to building a conversation around the displacement being faced by our very neighbors as well as resources and avenues of restoration that are currently being explored.
