One of the greatest tragedies of civil wars is when brothers fight against brothers. But how do we reconcile two Jews fighting on opposite sides of a war? Two Jewish generals, Josephus and Tiberius Julius Alexander, fought against each other in the Jewish Revolt against Rome in 66-70 CE. History has condemned both, branding Josephus as a traitor and Tiberius Julius Alexander as an apostate. Does the modern charge of "dual loyalty" apply to these infamous examples?
