John Gorka, Homegrown Coffeehouse 30th Anniversary Show
The Homegrown Coffeehouse celebrates our 30th Anniversary on Saturday, October 5, with a show by longtime Homegrown fan favorite JOHN GORKA,  an honored icon of folk music. Since 1983, the Homegrown Coffeehouse, co-managed by Beth and Jim Sargent the entire time, has presented a virtual Who's Who of New England and national folk and acoustic performers, many of them long before they became national stars. The venue's motto, "rooted in folk music -- powered by carrot cake" really means something -- some of the Homegrown's most loyal followers will tell anyone who wants to listen that it's three decades of carrot cake that brings them back year after year.

Energetic acoustic music that is not a trend, not a fad, but an expression of everyday life, is John Gorka's trademark. John's rich baritone voice and unique songcraft weave a magical spell that can only be described as 'Gorka.' Rolling Stone called him "the preeminent male singer/songwriter of the new folk movement." His rich multi-faceted songs full of depth, beauty and emotion have won him both critical acclaim and a devoted following across the country. European tours have taken him to Italy, Belgium, Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Switzerland and Germany. His music has been recorded and/or performed by Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith, Mary Black and Maura O'Connell. And over the years, Homegrown Coffeehouse audiences have flat-out adored him.

The Homegrown Coffeehouse is located at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, at the corner of Great Plain and Dedham Avenue in Needham center. There is free parking and full handicapped access. Admission is $25.00 / $22.00 students & seniors to benefit the Church. For more information, call (781) 444-7478.
