Astragalus Root: an in-depth exploration
For the first time ever I am dedicating an entire two hour class to one herb: astragalus root. How is one herb worthy of so much pontification, you may ask? Simply put, astragalus has taught me more lessons about the human body and how herbal medicines work than any other single herb. This class will be about astragalus, yes, but many greater lessons will be uncovered along the way. Experimenting and diving into single herbs is how I have come about most of my herbal education. To me, the story of astragalus tells us why struggle is important, what yin and yang balance really means, why you should listen to traditional wisdom, why dosage matters and why we formulate. Astragalus is so much more than just an immune modulator, and my goal in this class is to thoroughly disambiguate its use.
I will share history, cultivation, scientific research, personal experience, traditional Chinese usage, Western usage, cautions and all the aforementioned lessons that I have learned along the way.
Students of all levels will get something out of this class, though I recommend it particularly to intermediate students and those interested in learning Chinese medicine.

ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Natalie runs the Adiantum School of Plant Medicine, a local herb school in Seattle, where she teaches classes on plant ID, medicine making, and holistic herbalism. She has spent several years acquiring and synthesizing knowledge about Western Herbalism, PNW Materia Medica, nutrition, and Chinese Medicine. She is particularly passionate about traditional assessment techniques, the effects of emotions on the physical body, and holistic models of understanding imbalance. She also loves to forage and grow medicinal plants of all kinds, because cultivating a direct relationship with the living plant is not only educational but very healing. All in all, she is an empiricist at heart who loves experimentation and exploration into the possibilities of nourishing and strengthening our bodies and souls. As a teacher, Natalie is flexible, engaging and multi-sensory. She has extensive teaching experience, and is always looking for ways to keep things fresh and exciting.

We have an up sloping driveway with 5 concrete stairs that lead to a wood porch with 3 more stairs.
*Due to the nature of being an Apothecary we are not a scent free environment. We do, however, strive to keep our space free of any synthetic fragrances and appreciate your abstaining from wearing heavily scented body products.
