SI Tech & Christa McAuliffe Event (Brooklyn - December 10th)

Dear Staten Island Technical High School & Christa McAuliffe Middle School parents,

High school can be a very trying time for our children. Approximately 20% of teens, aged 13-18, suffer from serious mental stress at any given time. Of that group, nearly 50% drop out before graduation.

The Child and Adolescent Mental Wellness Team at Staten Island University Hospital, are joining Staten Island Technical High School & Christa McAuliffe Middle School in presenting an important meeting for parents & guardians of both schools.

We invite our parents & guardians, to choose one of two interactive sessions open to the parents & guardians only (this presentation is not intended for children) of both school communities and to be presented in both Brooklyn and Staten Island.

The following topics will be discussed:
Normal development in teens
Stressors teens face in high school
Common mental health issues in teens
How to support our teens when they are distressed.

Together we can best encourage and assist our teens as they strive for a healthy mind, happy life and successful high school experience.
