JOHN JORGENSON QUINTET
A local favorite returns to the stage! Its the John Jorgenson Quintet. Dubbed Brilliant! by Sir Elton John, this Grammy-winner and AMC Guitarist of the Year joins four equally talented musicians for an incredible night of music.
100% of the proceeds of this Special Concert will support The Shane Lalani Center for the Arts' mission of Strengthening Community Through Participation in the Arts.
Jorgensons career has already been a full one, co-founding The Desert Rose Band and playing with a number of musical luminaries including Sting, Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan, Luciano Pavarotti, Billy Joel, Barbra Streisand, and six years with Sir Elton John. If you have yet to see a live performance by Jorgenson, known for his blistering licks on guitar and mandolin, here is your opportunity to witness a master at the absolute top of his craft.
One of the most critically acclaimed and energetic guitar players working today will be coming to the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts, Dulcie Theatre...
Hailed by The New York Times as perhaps the best jazz guitarist alive, Grammy Award winner John Jorgenson will be performing with his quintet...
John is a sensational musician, a truly one-of-a-kind entertainer. The Washington Post said of Jorgensons group, ...dynamic interplay that was as thrilling to observe as it was to hear."
Jorgenson creates a unique musical experience that equally enthralls the most discerning and the casual music fan. Each member of the group is a virtuoso, yet the music is very accessible, melodic and appealing.
The group's style has been called gypsy jazz after the dynamic string-driven swing created by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli in 1930s Paris, but Jorgenson's original compositions draw in elements from Latin, Romanian, Classical, Rock, and Greek music, so 21st Century World Music is perhaps a more apt description.
Jorgenson's career has already been a full one, co-founding The Desert Rose Band with Chris Hillman and Herb Pederson and collaborating with a number of musical luminaries including Earl Scruggs, Luciano Pavarotti and Barbara Streisand. The Grammy was for Best Instrumentalist on the Brad Paisley record Cluster Pluck and Jorgenson was named AMC's Guitarist of the Year for three straight years. Others in his vast background of musical accompaniment include Bonnie Rait, Billy Joel and Sting.
"It's always an honor to play wonderful music with such diverse talents, but my first love is gypsy jazz," says Jorgenson, who portrayed Reinhardt in the 2005 movie Head in the Clouds with Charleze Theron and Penelope Cruz.
