Guerreros Lucumies
"Guerreros Lucumies" is a dance-drama representation that reflects cultural perspectives and identities based on the history and mythology of the Afro-Cuban culture. This work brings to the stage the legends, or Patakins, through a fragmented dramaturgy that allows the choreography to delve into ethnic elements of the Yoruba culture in Cuba. Guerreros Lucumises is one of the Patakin-based theatrical dance performances written, choreographed and directed by Danys Lamora Perez, a Dance/USA Doris Duke fellow. Oyu Oro dancers and musicians harness their skills as interpreters to relay the message of the ancient culture of Orishas to the present society through Cubas traditional art form: dance song and music derived from Africa. Guerreros Lucumies features the Orishas to present conflict, harmony, discordance, love, jealousy and reconciliation in an updated folkloric dance language, providing a clear understanding of this story for all audiences.
