Taking it Inside: How to Become an anti-racist congregation, community or institution
Join Us,

A coalition of anti-racist congregations, communities and institutions united together with common voice to address racism in society.

Delegations from congregations, communities and organizations participating in the Faith-Based Anti-Racism Coalition will come together to develop leadership skills and organizing plans to further anti-racism work within their faith community.

The long-term goal of our new and rapidly growing Faith-Based Anti-Racism Coalition is to address the larger society with a powerful voice and unified actions to end racism and further racial justice and equity. However, we are aware that this cannot take place unless our own congregations, communities and institutions are on a path toward anti-racist transformation. Before we can take it outside, we need to first take it inside, by developing unambiguous anti-racist identities and clear anti-racist voices that are consistent with our religious beliefs and traditions.

Thus, the first priority and central principle of The Faith-Based Anti-Racism Coalition is for participating congregations, communities and institutions to recognize their own need for transformation by:

embracing a shared understanding of racism,
addressing our own internalized and institutionalized racism,
and shaping our own anti-racist identity.

There are already more than 30 congregations/communities/organizations that have expressed interest in exploring membership in the Coalition.  Each of these congregations/institutions/communities  will be at different places in the pathway toward anti-racist identity, and each will have different needs as they move forward on this quest.

Some will quickly move into a place where there is common interest, enthusiasm and commitment in working toward anti-racism status. Other congregations will take much longer on the pathway. All of them need to find encouragement, assistance and deepened understanding and skills as they work side by side in the Coalition.

At our gathering on November 17, while we will be collectively affirming a common analysis of racism, each delegation will begin the task of developing individual paths forward toward anti-racist institutional identity. While each delegation is developing its own capacities and plan, the context will  be the community-as-a-whole creating a collective plan for coalition development.

We hope to see you, join us on November 17, 2019.
