Hope for the World (GHS Choral Department Fall Concert)
Each year as we choose the theme for our performance we consider how music, text, social reality, and community intersect with the teenagers at Gilroy High School. What will challenge them, inspire them, change them, and give them a passion for the choral arts. Sometimes outside events affect our daily lives, our planning and our norms. This year we, of course, had a tragic day at our beloved Garlic Festival. Many of us were there and all of us were affected. This is now a part of our story, our journey, and our voice. The community of Gilroy is truly #GilroyStrong. On our path to healing the music we perform tonight is for all of us, singer and audience alike. We are all trying to find a way to heal our trauma and continue in our daily lives. Our theme this year is Imagine, Wonder, Dream and we are determined to bring light out of the darkness from that day. We want to lift up those around us through song. Imagine the possibilities of our impact. Wonder how many lives we can change. Dream of the impossible and make it a reality. Music changes lives and for us heals. We are challenging ourselves to lift up others around us every day.
To quote Frank Ticheli, Music and singing have been my refuge, and music and singing shall be my light. We hope you enjoy the varied choral repertoire we will be presenting during our 2019-20 Concert Series and thank you for being a part of our #GilroyStrong and #GilroySings community.
