Step Into Your Spotlight!
Varsity & Junior Varsity, K-6, Wednesdays, $70 per child
Brookdale is excited to welcome Lauren Hooper, a professional musical theatre and TV actress, to our Program!! Do you have a song that you love singing or a monologue that you really want to work on? Or are you looking to prepare for a talent show or Brookdale on Broadway? Or, do you just love to sing and act and want to do it as much as humanly possible? Well, this is the class for you! Join us in this no-stress ALL FUN performance class, where you get to step into your spotlight and rock out like youve always wanted. If there is something that you know that you want to work on - Great! If youd like help picking something or want to join a friend in a duet or group number - also great!! Class goals: have fun, support your classmates, & sing/act your face off.
IMPROVed Play!
Varsity, Grades 3-6 on Wednesdays, $70 per child
Junior Varsity, Grades K-2 on Thursdays, $70 per child
Come and play! Learn the basic foundations of improv through energetic and interactive games led by a NJ/NYC based Comedian, and member of the Applied Improvisation Network, Megan Sweet. Based on the "Yes..., and" principle, basic scene work and character work, this class helps young learners demonstrate teamwork and collaboration with positive acceptance of each other's ideas. Improv has been shown to help students with active listening, self confidence, public speaking, social support, mindfulness and so much more! These skills are transferable into the classroom, community activities and home. Students need no prior experience to attend, and the only requirement is to have FUN!
Hip Hop HOORAY!
Grades K-3 on Tuesdays, $70 per child
Brandon Rogers, a pioneering member of the esteemed DC dance troupe Capital Funk, is joining the Brookdale Performing Arts Family! This beginner level, fun filled, energy pumping Hip Hop dance class will teach both the old-school basics and some new moves that make this genre a staple and truly original form of American Dance.
Mixed Media Art
Thursdays grades 3-6, $85 per child
Lovlee Art Studios is so EXCITED to offer after school art enrichment classes for the Brookdale Elementary School! Does your child enjoy all aspects of art such as painting, drawing, clay, design, collage, pastels, and more? During our sessions, each child will be encouraged to think outside of the box, and create in a way that is most authentic them! Your Young Artist will create with natural, recycled and repurposed materials, while exploring many different art mediums to build on current knowledge and refine techniques.
Intro to Art
Wednesdays k-2, $70 per child
Get your childs creativity soaring with art classes for your little one! Students will be introduced to various art techniques including watercolor, acrylic, colored pencils and pastels. Children are encouraged to use their imagination and make each project their own! A different project will be completed each week.
MLC Jurassic Land
Tuesdays grades k-2, $85 per child
Lets travel back millions of years ago to the days when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Lets learn all about dinosaurs! We will learn about the different types of dinosaurs (their differences and similarities), their eating habits and their habitats. We will explore earth science to understand how the earth has changed from the dinosaur days to today through shifting of lands or earthquakes and begin to understand why dinosaurs are now extinct. We will become paleontologists as we use our tools to dig up and identify the fossils and bones that were left behind. Finally, we will build own dinosaur out of everyday items.
MLC Harry Potter STEM Class
Tuesdays grades 3-6, $85 per child
Calling all muggles to the Wonderful World of Wizardry! Design and build your own blinking magic wand, catapult to launch snitches, mix up potions and use an invisible cloak in Minecraft. Instructed by the Montclair learning center.
Class sizes will be limited to 15 children (except where otherwise noted) and space will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Note that we may cancel classes if there is insufficient interest.
